The exact English you need for your job is the most important area of English you need right now…

Specific jobs in the United States and abroad need specific English. This is not the same type of English you will learn in general ESL classes. I hope to make your life easier by helping you learn specific Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL). This type of English for jobs is relevant in many industries. Trade jobs such as construction, roofing, cleaning/housekeeping, truck driving, welding, and automobile jobs are some of many that require specific English vocabulary and phrases.

With time, I intend to add the following sections to help you find employment and become successful with your work! I want to help you feel confident and successful with English for your job!

  • English for Restaurant Work
  • English for Roofing
  • English for Construction
  • English for Hotel Workers
  • English for Housekeeping and Cleaning
  • English for Cleaning Jobs
  • English for Truck Drivers
  • And more!

Once you are feeling confident and successful with the English usage for your job, the other areas of English will begin to come to you naturally – as long as you are willing to continue learning and practicing. But ensuring you have the correct English to perform your job will help secure your job and set a foundation for developing more language.

As an ESL teacher of more than 20 years, I hope that this website and tools will help you excel in your job.

Practice is key!

If you do not practice speaking the words and phrases aloud, you will never feel confident.

Tips for Learning to Speak English for Jobs

  • As you work with the flashcards and word lists, you must SPEAK the phrases aloud. Again and again. Repetition is your friend!
  • Stand in front of a mirror and say the words again and again.
  • Play imaginary conversations in your head and aloud, practicing how you might respond.
